Biography

Born in France of Spanish parents, I developed an interest for nature, adventure and travel early in my life and as a teenager I was already fascinated by tropical rainforests and their communities. I pursued a career in tourism and the environment and obtained a Master's Degree in Tourism from the University of Angers (France) and later a Master's Degree in Environmental Design from the University of Calgary (Canada). I lived several years in Peru while doing research on ecotourism and sustainability in the rainforest of Manu Biosphere Reserve. I also lived and worked in several other countries (Ireland, Spain, Venezuela, Colombia, Argentina, Guadeloupe, the USA, Canada) either as a volunteer, an academic researcher or on a contract. My work experience ranges from being an interpretive guide, a biological technician, an environmental advisor, to that of an environmental and sustainable tourism consultant. I have also been designing educational and responsible tourism trips. I travel frequently to Cuba as I have developed a special interest for the island, its history, nature and people. My areas of interest are sustainable tourism, protected areas, World Heritage Sites, conservation of natural and cultural resources, local communities, and environmental education. I am a member of the World Commission on Protected Areas of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN-WCPA) and of its Tourism and Protected Areas Specialist Group; the  International Ecotourism Society (TIES); and the Society for Conservation Biology (SCB).
