It is ranked 44th in total research expenditures and 34th in federal research expenditures for public universities by the National Science Foundation. The USF System has an annual budget of $1.5 billion, an annual economic impact of $3.7 billion, and serves 47,000 students in Tampa, St. Petersburg, Sarasota-Manatee and Lakeland.

    Sustainability Practices

The Patel School of Global Sustainability (PSGS) fosters sustainable urban communities and environments through collaborative research, education and community involvement. Its research generates innovations and new knowledge that will help cities around the world, including those in developing countries, reduce their ecological footprint while improving their form and function to make them healthier, more livable and resilient.

The Patel School of Global Sustainability comprises the Patel Center for Global Solutions, the M.A. School of Global Sustainability and the Office of Sustainability. It is an inclusive and holistic school based on interdisciplinary research, design, and education.

The Patel School offers a Master of Arts (MA) in Global Sustainability designed to prepare students to address complex regional, national, and global challenges related to sustainability and the ability to innovate in diverse cultural, geographic, and demographic contexts. To leverage existing strengths in faculty expertise in global sustainability that parallel student demand, we have identified WaterEntrepreneurship and Sustainable Tourism as concentrations for the MA degree.
