Your Contribution Supports Ecotourism

TIES has worked tirelessly, since 1990, to promote the principles of ecotourism and to support communities around the world, serving as the global source of knowledge and advocacy. By inspiring the traveling public and influencing the tourism industry, we continue to strengthen each area of our mission – creating an international network of individuals, institutions and the tourism industry; educating tourists and tourism professionals; and influencing the tourism industry, public institutions and donors to integrate the principles of ecotourism into their operations and policies.

Your donation will directly impact TIES work of uniting conservation, communities and sustainable travel.

TIES mission is to promote responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the environment and improves the well-being of local people by:

  • Creating an international network of individuals, institutions and the tourism industry;
  • Educating tourists and tourism professionals; and
  • Influencing the tourism industry, public institutions and donors to integrate the principles of ecotourism into their operations and policies.

All of TIES programs and projects are dedicated to this mission. As a non-profit industry association, TIES supports and promotes ecotourism initiatives worldwide that focus on solutions, implementation, and action, and we seek innovative ways to strengthen responsible business and empower communities.

Your donation will help strengthen TIES global ecotourism network

Our members around the world, individuals and organizations from over 90 countries, continue to demonstrate the tangible and intangible benefits of ecotourism for the long-term well-being of local communities. By providing professional development, marketing and networking tools, TIES supports these members’ endeavors in sustaining ecotourism initiatives.

TIES offers complimentary membership to non-profit, non-governmental and multi-stakeholder associations that serve as local, regional or national bodies supporting ecotourism stakeholders. Providing the vital links between governments, NGOs, businesses and citizens, these ecotourism associations are a crucial part of our efforts to further TIES mission. Here are a few examples of local, national and regional ecotourism associations leading extraordinary initiatives around the world:

  • Association of Ecotourism in Romania improving tourism experiences and the standard of living in rural areas in Romania through ecotourism.
  • Cambodia Community-Based Ecotourism Network connecting stakeholders to develop tourism that benefit local communities.
  • Society for Ethical Ecotourism Southwest Florida promoting responsible travel that encourages an awareness of the region's natural heritage.
  • Sri Lanka Ecotourism Foundation "putting communities first" – providing practical tools for sustainable community development.
  • Toledo Ecotourism Association, helping local capacity building and preserving age-old heritage in Toledo, Southern Belize.

Your donation will help enhance awareness and provide educational opportunities.

Through our educational programs, such as the University Consortium Field Certificate (UCFC) Program, conferences, workshops, forums, and regular publications, TIES provides unique opportunities for a wide range of participants. With new technologies and online tools, we are reaching an ever growing audience worldwide, and continue to strengthen our communications and educational outreach.

In the area of training and education, we focus on:

  • Supporting future ecotourism leaders: TIES offers scholarships for students to participate in the networking and knowledge sharing experiences through our conferences and other programs.
  • Sharing opportunities for Indigenous business leaders: TIES is committed to supporting initiatives promoting and strengthening Indigenous peoples' voices in the global tourism industry.

Your donation will help TIES continue making a global impact on travel & tourism.

As the world's oldest and largest international ecotourism association, TIES represents the collective voice of the global ecotourism community, advocating for policies to put sustainability at the top of the global tourism industry agenda by:

  • Partnering with leading international and inter-governmental organizations and representing the voice of the ecotourism community.
  • Partnering with and supporting NGOs focused on responsible travel, sustainable development and conservation.
  • Participating in conferences, workshops and tradeshows to share best practice stories on ecotourism and responsible travel.

We are proud to participate in the Partnerships for the Global Sustainable Tourism Criteria, and contribute to the efforts of the Sustainable Tourism Stewardship Council, ensuring that tourism supports the socio-cultural, environmental, and economic well-being of local communities. We are committed to these efforts and believe that they can make a lasting impact by mainstreaming sustainability in the tourism industry.
