About Our Internships

TIES offers internship opportunities year round. All TIES internships are for a minimum of 3 months, and unpaid unless otherwise specified. We welcome both office-based and remote interns. All interns are responsible for their own travel and accommodation. Most TIES internships focus on one or more of the following areas:

How to Apply

To apply, please send a cover letter, resume/CV, contact information for 3 references, and a 3-5 page writing sample to: employment[at]ecotourism.org. Make sure to indicate which internship area you are most interested in and when you would be available to start. Applications are currently being accepted for internship and volunteer positions to support the following program areas:

  • ecoDestinations: This is a great opportunity to get involved in TIES outreach and education work through the ecoDestinations program, and to obtain first-hand knowledge of ecotourism initiatives in various destinations around the world.
  • Events: The Events Intern position is based in Portland, Oregon, USA, and will assist with the Ecotourism and Sustainable Tourism Conference 2010 (ESTC 2010) and other event planning tasks.
  • Communications: The Communications Intern will assist in the following areas: e-newsletters, research, media outreach, website updates, member communications. The ideal candidate will have excellent organizational skills and writing and editing abilities.
  • Graphic/Web Design: We welcome volunteers to help with graphic design and web development needs for TIES various projects. Required: proficient in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop; familiar with website content management programs.
  • Membership: The Membership Intern will support TIES membership outreach initiatives and contribute to tasks related to membership services.
