About TIES
Founded in 1990, The International Ecotourism Society (TIES) is a non-profit association committed to promoting responsible tourism practices that benefit conservation and communities. Representing the voices of stakeholders from all corners of the world, TIES' global network supports and is supported by members from over 90 countries, who are leading the vital efforts to make travel and tourism more sustainable.
Ecotourism is is defined as "responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the environment and improves the well-being of local people."

Together with our members, we have come a long way since 1990 as an active participant and leader in global efforts to utilize travel as a tool for conservation and sustainable development.
