ESTC13: Kenya to Carry the Torch of the ESTC

On Wednesday, September 19th, during the Ecotourism and Sustainable Tourism Conference (ESTC) in Monterey, California, TIES and its partners announced Kenya as the host destination of the ESTC13. Co-hosted by the Kenya Tourist Board and Ecotourism Keyna, the ESTC13 will be held in September 2013 in Nairobi, Kenya.

George Wendt, founder and president of O.A.R.S., is a true pioneer in the adventure travel industry. His passion for running rivers was born in the 60s, when he became one of the first 1,100 people to descend the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon. In the decades since, O.A.R.S. has set the standard for first-class rafting, as well as environmentally and culturally responsible travel.

2013 Tourism for Tomorrow Awards Call for Entries

The WTTC's Tourism for Tomorrow Awards are one of the world's highest accolades in the industry, recognizing best practice in sustainable tourism. Entries are open until 26 November 2012. Candidates can apply in one of the four categories: Destination Stewardship, Conservation, Community Benefit and Global Tourism Business.

IUCN Best Practice Guidelines for Sustainable Tourism in Protected Areas

The IUCN Tourism and Protected Areas Specialist Group is in the process of revising the Best Practice Guidelines for Sustainable Tourism in Protected Areas and is seeking contributions. Tourism and protected areas professionals are invited to submit an expression of interest by 16 November 2012.

Call for Proposals: Conference on Forests for People, Outdoor Recreation Conference

The two conferences - 2013 National Outdoor Recreation Conference and the IUFRO Conference on Forests for People - are accepting submissions of proposals for presentations and posters. Abstracts are due no later than 5pm eastern time on 16 November 2012.
