TIES Members in Africa: From Wildlife Adventures to Community Voluntourism Experiences
We are pleased to welcome / welcome back the following new and returning members who are offering amazing adventure and eco-holiday experiences across Africa - Zimbabwe, South Africa, Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Ghana, and more! If you're interested in getting to know various destinations in Africa and in experiencing some of what this amazing continent has to offer, meet these members (*joined or renewed in April and May, 2012).
African Encounter, with the vision "to become leaders of responsible conservation and community centred tourism in Africa", strives to make a difference; making an impact on all concerned, travelers and locals alike. As a group, African Encounter offers adventure, voluntourism, personalized and educational safaris; overlanding and group travel as well as extraordinary lodges for those seeking to experience the true spirit of Africa while at the same time positively impacting the economy and environment of the communities they visit.
Africa’s leading voluntourism organization, African Impact, invites you to become a traveler, a conservationist and a humanitarian. Since 2004 this award-winning organization has been leading responsible volunteer projects with measurable results in southern and eastern Africa. Opportunities with African Impact include working with preschool children in South Africa, hands-on lion conservation in Zimbabwe and more.
Asyanut Safaris is a full service company offering assistance with planning, packaging and executing safaris in Uganda. The company specializes in matching travelers with the right package, arranging travel to and within Uganda, and excellent service. Asyanut Safaris also specializes in gorilla safaris to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park as well as many other amazing parks in Uganda.
Chumbe Island Coral Park is a not for profit private company, founded in 1994 to manage the conservation and environmental education programmes within the conservation area on Chumbe Island, on behalf of the Government of Zanzibar. These activities are funded through sustainable eco-tourism operated on the island since 1998. The island only uses sustainable technologies such as solar power, compost toilets, rain water harvesting etc. in order to have as little as possible impact on the surrounding environment.
ecoTravel Africa provides tailor-made responsible safari holidays that create a tangible benefit for conservation and development to destinations across Africa, including South Africa, Namibia, Kenya and Tanzania. ecoTravel Africa offers self drive, private escorted and small group travel solutions to suit all budgets.
Green Bug Adventures works in some of most responsible eco-destinations in Ghana, West Africa, by partnering with local, community-based tourism projects and evaluating them in terms of social and environmental responsibility, contributions to local community and conservation efforts. Green Bug Adventures warns that these trips can be contagious; once you get the "bug" you will be hooked for life!
Hondo Hondo (Udzungwa Forest Tented Camp) is right on the border of the Udzungwa Mountains National Park pristine rainforest. Powered by a mini-hydro generator, and all water heated by solar power, the energy for the camp is completely from sustainable sources. Local community development projects include work with the local primary and secondary schools, support for orphaned children in the village, and nearby women's groups.
