Sri Lanka Ecotourism Foundation Receives National Recognition

Sri Lanka Tourism Award

5th Annual Sri Lanka Tourism Awards: Recognition of Excellence in Tourism Industry in Sri Lanka

"A Triumph for Ecotourism in Sri Lanka"

Sri Lanka Tourism Awards pays tribute to organizations and individuals for their excellence and inspired achievements contributing to strengthening and empowering the nation's tourism industry. This annual event provides a platform for industry recognition and an opportunity for tourism operators to celebrate their success in an evolving business environment.

At the award ceremony held on 30th August 2012 in Battramulla, the Sri Lanka Ecotourism Foundation (SLEF) received two awards (Best Initiative for Ecotourism Research, Training and Education; and Best Model Community Based Tourism Project), becoming the first ecotourism organization in the country to receive such national recognition.

"These important awards would certainly help the SLEF to support further the poor communities living around the tourism generating areas of Sri Lanka in sharing the tourism income." - Palitha Gurusinghe, President, Sri Lanka Ecotourism Foundation

SLEFFor over 14 years, SLEF has been actively contributing to the development of ecotourism in Sri Lanka and promoting Community Based Ecotourism in the country. Through partnerships with other like-minded organizations in Sri Lanka and in other countries in South and South East Asia, SLEF has been promoting sustainable community development and poverty alleviation through tourism, and helping ensure the local communities receive a tangible share of tourism income, and thereby encouraging the community to support environmental and biodiversity conservation.
