Auckland tour operator TIME Unlimited Tours has been chosen as the only Finalist from Australasia in the worldwide Eco-Tourism Award EcoTrophea 2012. Multi-award-winning TIME Unlimited Tours (TIME stands for "To Integrate Maori Experiences") was established in 2005 and is a highly innovative Auckland, New Zealand-based tourism company that focuses on providing outstanding and high-quality Auckland Tours for its clients. TIME Unlimited Tours implements environmentally responsible business practices, and has achieved Qualmark Enviro GOLD for its very high environmental standards; Only 200 tourism businesses in New Zealand have achieved Qualmark Enviro GOLD.

EcoTrophea Awards

Since 1987 the German Travel Association (DRV) has been awarding the International Environmental Award EcoTrophea for sustainable projects in worldwide tourism. In 2012 a total of 41 candidate organisations from around the world applied. TIME Unlimited Tours has been selected as one of the very best from many high-profile applicants from around the globe for this prestigious international award.

 

The EcoTrophea Award is annually awarded by the DRV to honour effective and exemplary projects which are committed to environmental protection and social responsibility in tourism around the globe. This year’s innovative and sustainable projects that exemplify responsible tourism are applicants from Armenia, Aruba, Bulgaria, Chile, Germany, Italy, The Azores, Namibia, Peru, Russia, The Dominican Republic, Ecuador (Galapagos), Finland, France, Madagascar, Italy, Kenya, Maldives, Montenegro, Namibia, New Zealand, Austria, Poland, Sweden, Spain, South Africa and the United States.

 

Contenders for this year's EcoTrophea Awards included tour and resort operators, accommodation providers, tourism ministries and marketing organizations, cities, communities and municipalities, research institutes as well as foundations and associations.
