Ecotourism and the Country of Georgia

Ecotourism and the Country of Georgia

After completing a similar project in the Guria region of Georgia, the Ecotourism Development Center started a new research project to investigate the potential of agritourism in Tbilisi and the surrounding areas. This project was commissioned by Georgian National Tourism Administration. The main objective of the study is to identify potential tourism facilities that are able and willing to take guests and have agritourism infrastructure.  Including providers such as local wineries; accommodations (guesthouses) that have their own small organic farms and can offer tourist local bioproducts; and restaurants or catering facilities that offer locally grown or made bioproducts.  Additionally the project will look at other tourism service providers who can offer a variety of outdoor recreation opportunities.

The project involves interviews with representatives of selected facilities. In addition to the information collected via questionnaire, data will also be collected about access roads to the tourist facilities using GIS-data. Photos will be taken at each facility to catalog its agritourism potential. Final reports will be submitted to the Georgian National Tourism Administration and more information about the completed project will be available online.  To learn more about the Ecotourism Development Center of Georgia, please visit their Member Profile.
