TIES Member Code of Conduct

TIES Member Code of Conduct

Each member is required to sign TIES Member Code of Conduct during the member registration process.

Termination of Membership

TIES retains the right to terminate a membership at any time should there be any clear violation of TIES Member Code of Conduct, or multiple accounts of negative feedback by other TIES members and/or other credible sources.

Membership Benefits

Membership Benefits

Membership benefits include services or products provided by TIES to individual and organization members of TIES. A full and most up-to-date list of member benefits can be found on the membership pages.

Custom Member Profile URL

Member profile URLs are created from organization or individual member names, as they appear in the member registration form. For example, the member profile URL for the organization member "Ecotourism Society" would be www.ecotourism.org/ecotourism-society, and the individual member Peter Braun, www.ecotourism.org/peter-braun. The member profile URL can only be changed by TIES, and the change must be approved based on reasonable needs.

Member Registration & Payment

Activating Membership

Your membership becomes active when your member application is received and your membership fee payment is processed by TIES. Membership is valid for one year and is automatically renewed on the anniversary date. Once your membership is activated, you will receive a confirmation email with organizational information and other useful information to get you started. You will be notified about upcoming events, networking opportunities and receive our electronic newsletters.

Payment Methods

We accept credit card payments with American Express, VISA, MasterCard and Discover Card. Money orders and checks should be made payable to The International Ecotourism Society. We also accept Wire Transfers for a US$15 wire transfer fee.

Membership Terms & Renewal Procedures

Membership Period

Each membership, unless otherwise agreed, is valid for one full year from the registration date. The membership expires at the end of the membership term, and a grace period (the amount of time after a membership expires and before a payment is made) of 30 days is offered. During this time the member continues to receive benefits.

Membership Renewal

A membership can be renewed any time before the expiration date or during the grace period. If a membership is renewed before the actual expiration date the days will be pro-rated towards your membership. A member who completes the membership renewal process during the grace period maintains the original membership start date and remains eligible for longevity programs and other tenure-based benefits.

Renewing After the Grace Period

After the 30-day grace period, a member can rejoin the organization and receives a new join date. If the member has not renewed by the end of the 30-day grace period, the membership status is changed to inactive.

TIES membership benefits (e.g. “TIES Member” logo) cannot be used once the membership status becomes inactive. In case of a violation of this policy, the amount equivalent to the membership dues for the inactive period must be paid before membership renewal can be processed.

Membership Categories

Organization Membership

Any organization (for-profit, non-profit, government, NGO) that is directly or indirectly affiliated with the tourism industry and is engaged in the field of ecotourism can sign up as an organization member of TIES. Each Organization member receives one complimentary Professional membership for the Primary Contact. The Primary Contact's Professional membership is associated with the company's Organization membership, and therefore expires when the Organization membership expires. Each Organization member is eligible to receive discounts on Professional-level membership (US$40 per year; 50% off the regular professional membership fee) for their employees.

*A university or colleague that is an Organization member may only offer Professional membership discounts to their full-time staff or faculty members working at the institution, and not to their students. A discounted membership option is available to full-time students currently enrolled in an educational institution.

Individual Membership

The following individual membership categories are available to anyone working in and/or interested in being engaged in the field of ecotourism.

  • Professional: Professional membership is US$80 per year. Professional members receive benefits tailored to those working in ecotourism, and interested in sharing their expertise and improving their skills.
  • Traveler: Traveler membership (free) is available to anyone interested in supporting and learning more about ecotourism.

Discounted Membership for Students

Students who are currently enrolled full-time in an educational institution are eligible to receive a discount on Professional membership. The reduced membership fee for eligible students is US$40 per year. To receive this discount, proof of current student status must be presented, e.g. student ID indicating the graduation year, official documentation stating the student is enrolled full-time in an academic institution.

*Group discounts are available to academic institutions interested in offering TIES membership to their class or program.
